CBE Workshop for Pre Primary Teachers

Report of the Workshop conducted for Pre Primary Teachers from 3rd to 5th April, 2024

The Catholic Board of Education under the leadership of the Secretary, Rev Fr Antony Shera organized a workshop of 3 days from 3rd April to 5th of April, for the Pre Primary Teachers of all the schools that come under the Catholic Board of Education. Lourdes Central School, Bejai, Mangalore was the host for all the three days of this workshop.

The programme began with a solemn prayer song. The Principal of Lourdes Central School, Rev Fr Robert Dsouza welcomed the teachers and made them feel at home. The Secretary Rev Fr Antony Shera enlighten the teachers on the importance of good education and how we need to learn, share and grow to change the world by upgrading ourselves regularly.

Ms Naina J Sequeira, the resource person for the workshop, was introduced by Rev. Fr Antony Shera and felicitated by the Principal, Rev Fr Robert Dsouza. Ms Naina introduced Jolly Phonics and helped the teachers in the study of phonic lessons. She gave valuable information to the teachers by helping them to be creative and confident.

The highlights of the workshop are as follows:

a. Teachers should prepare themselves before entering their classes. Lesson plans and teaching aids should be kept ready and should go through the proper pronunciation.

b. Phonics with actions were taught which will help the children to remember easily.

c. The method of introducing a sound and its letter – through sound/story/song/ action pattern was done.

d. Methods to make learning interesting for the children and taking care of the children who require extra care and attention.

Various activities, songs and actions in collaboration with ‘Jolly Phonics’ were taught. The Principal, Rev Fr Robert Dsouza provided healthy breakfast, nutritious lunch and refreshing snacks to all the participants present.

The programme ended on 5th April where the teachers were honoured with certificates from the Catholic Board of Education by Rev Fr Antony Shera..

The programme was compered by Ms Jennifer Menezes, Ms Malini Menezes and the words of gratitude were expressed by Ms Lavita Dsouza.
