








Jolly Phonics, Catholic Board of Education
Report of the Hands On Training Session on Jolly Phonics on how to use Teachers’ Book and Pupil Book 1, 2 and 3 conducted for Pre Primary and Kindergarten Teachers from 1st April to 8th April, 2025.
The Catholic Board of Education under the leadership of the Secretary, Rev Dr Praveen Leo Lasrado organized a workshop for 6 days from 1st April to 4th April, 2025, two batches at Lourdes Central School and on 7th and 8th of April, 2025and one batch at Infant Jesus English Medium school, Modankap for the Kindergarten teachers of all the schools come under the Catholic Board of Education.
On April 1st, 2025 the programme began with a solemn prayer song. The Principal of Lourdes Central School, Rev Fr Johnson Sequiera welcomed the teachers and made them feel at home. The Secretary Rev Dr Praveen Leo Lasrado enlighten the teachers on the importance of good education and how we need to learn, share and grow to change the world by upgrading ourselves regularly. Ms Naina J Sequeira, the resource person for the workshop, was introduced by Rev Dr Praveen Leo Lasrado and welcomed by the Principal, Rev Fr. Johnson Sequiera. Ms Naina introduced Jolly Phonics and helped the teachers in the study of phonic lessons. She gave valuable information to the teachers by helping them to be creative and confident. 38 teachers were present on 1st Batch and 42 teachers present on 2nd Batch.
On April 7th, 3rd batch began with prayers at Infant Jesus English Medium Hr Pry School, Modankap. The Headmaster of Infant Jesus English Medium Hr Pry School, Modankap, Rev Fr Melwyn Lobo welcomed the teachers. Joint Secretary Rev Fr Valerian DSouza, Catholic Board Secretary Rev Dr Praveen Leo Lasrado and resource person Ms. Naina J Sequeira were presented. 58 teachers were presssssent on Batch 3rd.
The highlights of the workshop are as follows:
a. Teachers should prepare themselves before entering their classes. Lesson plans and teaching aids
should be kept ready and should go through the proper pronunciation.
b. Phonics with actions were taught which will help the children to remember easily.
c. The method of introducing a sound and its letter – through sound/story/song/ action pattern was done.
d. Resource person Ms Naina J Sequeira guided teachers how to use Teachers Book and Pupil Book 1, 2 and 3. Various activities, songs and actions in collaboration with ‘Jolly Phonics’ were taught.
Breakfast, lunch and evening tea was served.
The program was concluded by prayer and vote of thanks.
